This is in response to the statements made by Colin Myler and Tom Crone stating that James Murdoch did see a crucial email which showed that the hacking was not contained to one rogue reporter. This centres around the ‘for Neville’ transcript which proved there was more than one reporter involved in the Gordon Taylor case. This was settled out of court for $1m with Mr Murdoch suggesting on legal advice it was cheaper to settle than to have a court case. This $1m is at odds with other incidents where people claim they got only a few thousand pounds to settle outside of court. This has led many to wonder whether this was in fact a pay off because court proceedings would have been embarrassing for news of the world.
